La Guajira is located in the northeast of Colombia and is mostly inhabited by the Wayuu indigenous community, but also by Wiwa, Koguis, Kankuamos and Arhuacos as well as Afro communities. This region of Colombia has landscapes ranging from desert to sea through dry forests and large bays.

The rainy season is cloudy, the dry season is windy and partly cloudy and it is very hot throughout the year.

The temperature generally varies from 24 °C to 32 °C.
